The Ley Groups' Innovative Technology Centre purchase A-S Automate

The Ley Groups' Innovative Technology Centre ( ITC, Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge ) recently purchased A-S Automate, Aitken Scientifics' Automation package.

This will provide them with a flexible design and development tool permitting easy configuration and control of pumps, valves and I/O devices. This software platform will facilitate the construction and operation of a number of automated systems relating to projects they are currently working on in the area of flow based chemistry.

Dr Ian Baxendale, Director of New Technologies at the centre remarked on the package:

"This is the type of tool that will help us to rapidly evaluate our reactor configurations, enabling real-time calibrations and safety tests to be performed while also allowing fast and efficient hardware and software changes to be made. It's turned our hardware constructions into flexible and dynamic solutions which fit better with the demands of our Chemistry needs.

We have been really impressed by the versatility, automation and executive user control that this seemingly simple application provides.

The intuitive icon based interface has enabled our less computer experienced users to quickly gain control over the attached equipment but also allows those of us who like to take things apart and tamper to work at a deeper level by direct modification of the compiled execution code. Its certainly been a fantastic help in the short time we have been using it."
